ABOUT THE BOOK Where Eagles Weep is a collection of free-form narrative, descriptive, and lyrical poetry and verse, set in North America, but relevant to the world. It is written over the past number of years, from the perspective and observations of a Canadian woman who grew up on the prairies and resided for some time on the West Coast. This is not “pretty” poetry. In several individual selections, the author addresses the “underbelly” of humanity, although she usually attempts to find the light that follows the dark. In one section, she masterfully tackles contemporary Canadian challenges, issues such as euthanasia, the Truth and Reconciliation inquiry into residential schools for First Nations peoples, the disappearance of women on the “Highway of Tears”, the homeless and the lost. In other sections she writes about regional life and culture, and about love, loss, grief, and immortality. As always, her writings emphasize the natural world and spiritual connotations, both thought-provoking and inspirational.
